Anxiety Therapy For Men
Overland Park, KS
Around 20% of men will struggle with an anxiety disorder at some point in their life.
But many of them struggle alone in silence.
Men struggling with anxiety are often discouraged from seeking professional help.
Anxiety can feel terrible. The constant worry. The pit in your stomach. The racing heart and panic attacks. It’s miserable to live with anxiety.
Yet men who struggle with anxiety often choose not to seek help, believing that it makes them weak or that they should be able to handle life’s challenges on their own.
As a male therapist, I understand the unique challenges men face. I’ve had my own share of struggles and can assure you that there’s no shame in asking for help.
Some of the most common anxiety symptoms in men are:
Anger or irritability
Panic attacks
Somatic symptoms, like a racing heart, sweating, and feeling nauseous
Worrying too much about different topics
Catastrophizing, or feeling like the worst case scenario will always happen
Avoiding situations that make you anxious
None of these symptoms are abnormal but they’re all a good reason to seek help.
What happens in anxiety therapy?
-
One of the most important parts of therapy is establishing a relationship built on mutual trust and respect.
-
Learning to control your breath, changing your thought patterns, and handling difficult emotions are some of the skills I can teach you to help manage your anxiety.
-
If you’re worried about something specific, it can be helpful to confront it head on. We do this through a type of therapy called “exposure and response prevention” (ERP). You can read more about ERP by clicking here.
-
Anxiety comes in different forms and has different causes. Together, we can find the root of your anxiety to help you find freedom from it once and for all.
