Trauma Therapy For Men
Overland Park, KS
Did you know that, on average, men experience more trauma than women do?
Yet men are less likely than women to reach out for help.
Male trauma survivors face unique pressures that can make it hard to seek therapy.
Maybe you’ve been told that men aren’t affected by trauma, or that you should just “shake it off and be a man.” Maybe you’ve even bought into the lie that going to counseling is a sign of weakness.
As a male trauma therapist, I understand the unique challenges men face. I’ve had my own share of struggles and can assure you that there’s no shame in asking for help.
Men often experience different PTSD symptoms than women. Some of the most common PTSD symptoms in men are:
Alcohol/substance abuse
Anger or irritability
Numbing emotions
Acting reckless or engaging in dangerous behaviors
Avoiding reminders of the trauma
Feeling insecure about their masculinity
Flashbacks
Panic attacks
Nightmares
These aren’t signs of weakness but are normal reactions to trauma.
